About
Leonore Brunner’s artistic practice explores the memory of sensitive spaces, both physical and spiritual, whether in natural or urban environments. She questions traditional modes of listening and the imagination by creating sound compositions where receptivity to sound is central to her approach.
Leonore Brunner highlights these memories by playing with the tensions between sound and imagination. Her work emphasizes how we can deconstruct, reshape, and transform our perception of the sonic narratives tied to the places they originate from. She combines textures, noises, and harmonies, thus generating new mental images.
Formally, she favors a minimalist aesthetic to bring out the experience and the reflective dimension of her approach. In her installations, she sets up a sound-based dispositif and often works—though not exclusively—in dark spaces or under artificial lighting.
Her creative process begins with sound capture, drawn from real locations—both indoor and outdoor—as well as fictional spaces. Some emerge from the imagination, while others inspire a narrative impulse. From these recordings, she uses electronic musical interfaces to transform and reclaim these sonic fragments, shaping them into a free-flowing sound material. Through this transformation, she reinvents these spaces and their resonances, presenting them through a renewed listening experience where perception and memory are reconfigured.
Through her work, she questions the fragility of listening and its necessity in a world where connections are increasingly strained by current sociopolitical dynamics. By emphasizing this quality of attention, she invites us to relearn how to hear one another and to perceive the world differently, awakening sensitivities and emotions to reconnect with an essential dialogue.
